  1. Creation - Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV):
  • “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness,’… So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
  • Some interpret the plural pronouns (“us” and “our”) as an early indication of the triune nature of God, including the presence of Christ in creation.
  1. Angel of the Lord - Exodus 3:2-6 (NIV):
  • “There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire, it did not burn up.”
  • The Angel of the Lord, often believed to be a pre-incarnate Christ, speaks to Moses from the burning bush.
  1. Appearance to Abraham - Genesis 18:1-3 (NIV):
  • “The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day.”
  • Some interpret this appearance as a Christophany, an Old Testament manifestation of Christ.
  1. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the Fiery Furnace - Daniel 3:25 (NIV):
  • “He said, ‘Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.’”
  • The “son of the gods” is interpreted by some as a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ.
  1. Angel of the Lord - Genesis 16:7-14 (NIV):
  • The Angel of the Lord appears to Hagar in the wilderness.
  1. Angel of the Lord at the Burning Bush - Exodus 3:2-6 (NIV):
  • The Angel of the Lord appears to Moses in the burning bush.

  • The Angel of the Lord confronts Balaam and his talking donkey.
