Fasting IS PRIESTLY

:fire: FASTING IS PRIESTLY :fire:
“You are a royal priesthood…” – 1 Peter 2:9

Most believers know fasting as a spiritual discipline… but scripture reveals something deeper:

:open_book: Fasting is a priestly act.
And not just any priesthood.
Fasting is part of your role in the Melchizedek priesthood under Yeshua the Messiah.

:crown: 1. Yeshua is Our Melchizedek High Priest

“You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.” – Psalm 110:4, Hebrews 7:17

Yeshua didn’t step into the Levitical priesthood. He bypassed it.
He restored the original priesthood—one based not on genealogy, but righteousness (Hebrews 7:1-3).

Now under Messiah’s eternal priesthood, we don’t just have a High Priest—we become priests ourselves:

“To Him who made us kings and priests to His God and Father…” – Revelation 1:6

:fire: 2. Priests Offer Sacrifice

In the Old Covenant, Levitical priests offered:

  • Blood of animals
  • Fat (the richest part) burned on the altar (Leviticus 3:16)
  • Incense and prayers

But under the New Covenant?

“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God…” – Romans 12:1
“Let my prayer be set before You as incense, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” – Psalm 141:2

We are the altar, the offering, and the priests.
And fasting is the flame.

:dna: 3. Fasting Fulfills the Pattern

When you fast:

  • Your body burns visceral fat—the modern parallel to the fat that was burned on the altar.
  • You are offering the richest part of yourself back to God.
  • You’re physically cleansing the temple (your body – 1 Cor. 6:19), just as priests cleansed the altar.

“The fat is the LORD’s” – Leviticus 3:16
“Sanctify the LORD God in your hearts…” – 1 Peter 3:15

:fire: Fasting becomes the physical outworking of your priesthood.
You aren’t just abstaining—you’re ministering at the altar.

:dove: 4. Fasting Is for Kings and Priests

Yeshua fasted for 40 days before beginning His ministry (Matt. 4:2).
Moses fasted before receiving the Law.
Elijah fasted before encountering God on the mountain.

Each was stepping into a priestly or prophetic role.

Why do we fast?

Because we are priests under the Melchizedek order.
Because the temple is being consecrated.
Because the body is being prepared for holy service.

:shield: 5. The War is Spiritual—and Priestly

“This kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.” – Matthew 17:21

Fasting isn’t optional—it’s spiritual warfare.
And spiritual warfare is priestly work—standing between heaven and earth, wielding intercession like a sword.

:latin_cross: In Summary:

  • You’re not just a believer—you’re a Melchizedek priest.
  • Fasting is your altar.
  • Your body is the sacrifice.
  • Christ is your High Priest and example.
  • The Spirit is the fire.

“Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar…” – Joel 2:17
“Sanctify a fast…” – Joel 1:14

:crossed_swords: Ready to walk in your priesthood? Fast like a son of the Kingdom.
Not for ritual… but for royal identity.
