Isaiah 44:6 (KJV)
“Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.”
Argument:
In this verse, there are two figures:
“the LORD (YHWH), the King of Israel” → The Father
“his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts” → A second divine person who also holds the title “LORD (YHWH) of hosts”
This makes no sense unless one understands that YHWH is a shared covenant name between the Father and the Son. The Son (Yeshua) came in His Father’s name (John 5:43), fulfilling this prophecy and operating under that shared divine title.
Supporting Scriptures Using “The LORD” and “His Redeemer”/“LORD of hosts”:
- Isaiah 47:4
“As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.”
Redeemer = LORD of Hosts
Called the Holy One of Israel — another title used for Yeshua in Acts 3:14
- Isaiah 54:5
“For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.”
One verse, two identities blended:
Maker = LORD of hosts
Redeemer = Holy One of Israel
This parallels John 1:3 – “Through Him [Yeshua] all things were made”
- Jeremiah 50:34
“Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause…”
Redeemer = LORD of Hosts
- Hosea 12:5
“Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.”
This solidifies “LORD of hosts” as a divine memorial name—Yeshua came bearing the Father’s name (John 17:11-12).
Yeshua as the Redeemer in the New Testament
- Galatians 3:13
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us…”
Yeshua = Redeemer
- Titus 2:13-14
“Looking for that blessed hope… Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us…”
- Revelation 1:17-18
“I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore…”
Echoes Isaiah 44:6 → “I am the first and the last”
Only Yeshua was dead and now alive
