Yeshua Spoke to Jeremiah: The Word of God Who Forms in the Womb
“Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet unto the nations.”
– Jeremiah 1:5
1. Jeremiah had a direct conversation with “the Word of YHWH”
Jeremiah 1:4: “Then the word of YHWH came unto me, saying…”
This was not just a thought or prophetic inspiration—it was a person who came and spoke.
In Hebrew, the phrase is “דְּבַר־יְהוָה” (D’var YHWH)—a recurring personified form in Scripture.
The Word “said”, “touched” Jeremiah’s mouth (v.9), and “sent” him—a full relational interaction, not a silent voice.
2. The “Word of YHWH” is Yeshua’s title in the Brit Chadasha
John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God.”
John 1:14 – “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
This Word (Logos in Greek) is Yeshua—eternal, divine, and personal.
Therefore, when Jeremiah says “the Word of YHWH came to me…”, it mirrors John’s revelation that the Word is a person—Yeshua.
3. “I formed you in the womb” is a divine claim
Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you…”
No angel or mere prophet can say that. Only the Creator forms life in the womb:
Psalm 139:13 – “You knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
Job 33:4 – “The Spirit of God has made me.”
Yeshua, as the Word through whom all things were made (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16), is the one who can rightly say:
“I formed you.”
4. Jeremiah responds as if to a person standing before him
Jeremiah 1:6 – “Ah, Lord YHWH! Behold, I cannot speak.”
This is a dialogue—not internal monologue.
Jeremiah sees and hears and is physically touched (v.9).
That mirrors other Christophanies, such as:
Moses and the burning bush (Exodus 3)
Isaiah’s vision of Adonai on the throne (Isaiah 6)
Daniel’s vision of the Son of Man (Daniel 7:13)
5. The Word “touches” Jeremiah—showing personhood
Jeremiah 1:9 – “Then YHWH put forth His hand, and touched my mouth.”
A “word” can’t touch unless it’s personified.
This aligns with:
Revelation 19:13 – “His name is called The Word of God” – and this one comes to make war, wearing a robe dipped in blood: clearly Yeshua.
Yeshua often touches to commission—the same happens here with Jeremiah.
6. Yeshua is the One who commissions prophets
Malachi 3:1 – “The Messenger of the Covenant… shall suddenly come to His temple.”
Hebrews 1:1-2 – “God… spoke through the prophets… has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.”
Yeshua has always been the Messenger, Voice, and Living Word.
In summary
Jeremiah did not just receive an impersonal message. He encountered the person of the Word - Yeshua.
When the Word of YHWH says:
“Before I formed you… I knew you… I sanctified you…”
It echoes Psalm 22:10 (“From my mother’s womb you have been my God”) and confirms that Yeshua—the eternal Word—knew and formed Jeremiah, commissioning him for his prophetic mission just as He does with believers today (Ephesians 2:10).
